Cost Functions

A floating intake corresponds to a pumping system that is installed on top of a floating surface (slab), which is supported by guide rails or by chains, anchored to the bottom of the body of water, and that allows to capture raw water from pondages or rivers whose level can change rapidly.

The original cost function (A1) for floating intake is as follows:

This function corresponds to an intake that has pumping, and its variable (x) is the capacity of the plant in mgd (millions of gallons per day). Unit conversion is performed:

Additional modifications to this function correspond to the correction of costs per year, with the CCI ENR index of 9547 of the year 2013, to obtain A3. This is done in the same way as explained in the Cost Functions Wiki— General.

This function has the characteristic that part B2 does not consider, since, when capturing surface water, this structure will be minimally affected by changes in the quality of the source water, as it always captures the best quality water, corresponding to the closer to the surface, which is characterized by having a smaller amount of sediment and other pollutants.
